Burqa-clad Taliban terrorists attack college in Pakistan, at least five wounded

Nine students killed in gun attack on Pakistan agriculture institute

The heavily-armed militants, who arrived on an auto rickshaw, attacked the students' hostel of the Directorate of Agriculture Extension on the University Road in the city, the capital of the restive Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

The area where the incident occurred is a hub for educational institutions including the University of Peshawar. The institute was closed for the Eid-e-Milad holiday, but about 70 students were present in the hostel. "The other student was pressing the wound with his hands to stop the blood and I had to put my hand on his mouth so that he can not scream", he said. One police officer, two soldiers and a journalist were among the injured, he said.

IG KPK Mehsud had earlier confirmed that at least four persons were injured including two students in the attack.

Numerous students staying at the complex had returned home for a holiday weekend to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

The ISPR said the terrorists were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan during the attack.

An eyewitness said, "We were sleeping when we heard gunshots".

A gunbattle continued between forces and the attackers for over an hour and the Pakistan Army successfully killed all the terrorists.

The Tehreek- i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.

The militants also issued photos of the attackers, who they said were from nearby Swat Valley, singing with the movement's fugitive leader, Mullah Fazlullah, before their mission.

"We also received 18 other people with minor injuries", Muhammad Tariq from Hayatabad Medical Complex told dpa.

At least two gunmen entered the Peshawar Agriculture Training Institute disguised in the Islamic veils worn by many women in the region, the BBC reported.

In a similar attack, Pakistani Taliban gunmen, in December 2014, had killed 134 children at Peshawar's Army Public School. They are loosely allied with the Afghan Taliban insurgents.
