Sauber unveils concept 2018 Alfa Romeo livery

Formula Two champion Leclerc to lead new Alfa Romeo F1 team

While Sauber is not a competitive team and Leclerc will likely struggle to score points by finishing races in the top 10, this will be a great opportunity for him to showcase his driving talent to some of the sport's top teams.

Giovinazzi's chances seemed to have been raised by news of the Alfa Romeo deal, with speculation Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne was keen to make it a fully-fledged junior team.

Leclerc had always been tipped for one of the Sauber seats after storming to the Formula 2 title, finishing 72 points ahead of Artem Markelov.

Even before he put his teenage years behind him back in October, he had always been the favorite to get this ride, and now it's official.

England rivals excited by Three Lions challenge at World Cup
Now 61, he coached his native Colombia at the 1998 World Cup in France. "Panama are very happy with this group. But asked if he feared any of their players, he quipped: "The only unsafe player is Messi!"

The Swiss team announced Marcus Ericsson and Charles Leclerc as its 2018 race drivers at a launch event near Milan, with Antonio Giovinazzi as third driver.

The white-and-red scheme, reflecting Alfa Romeo's colours, marks a move away from the predominantly blue livery which Sauber has run since 2015.

Marchionne, who is also chairman of Sauber's engine suppliers Ferrari, has made the title sponsorship of Sauber part of his reshaping of the FCA-owned Alfa Romeo brand. "We have big challenges ahead of us and having the contribution of Alfa is essential for the future of F1".

Former champions Williams are the only remaining team with a vacancy. "First and foremost, I would like to thank Ferrari for their support".
