Mayfield, Love, Jackson Named Heisman Finalists

The Heisman Trophy announcement will be made Saturday evening in New York City.

Joining Mayfield on the list of finalists who will be in NY for this weekend's Heisman Trophy festivities Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson (last year's winner) and Stanford running back Bryce Love.

Excluding Jackson since he's still in college, eight of the past nine Heisman winners have been selected in the first round of the National Football League draft. The other finalist is Stanford running back Bryce Love.

Love led the Pac-12 and was second in the nation with 1,973 rushing yards and scored 17 touchdowns.

Saquon Barkley fell short of reaching NY for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, as Baker Mayfield, Bryce Love and Lamar Jackson were named finalists.

The senior finished in fourth in 2015 before climbing up to third in 2016, throwing 76 touchdown passes between those two seasons. While his rushing numbers began to dip against defenses looking to stop the run, he still maintained a lead thanks to his versatility, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns while being a major threat as a receiver. Mayfield, is on pace to break his own NCAA record for passing efficiency with a mark of 203.76. Love had 10 100-yards games and averaged 8.32 yards a carry.

One name that stood out all season long, though, was Baker Mayfield.

Jackson won the 2016 Heisman Trophy and vies to be the second two-time victor. The 6-1, 222-pounder from Austin, Texas, threw for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns, with another 310 yards and five scores on the ground while leading the Sooners to a 12-1 record, the Big 12 title and a berth in the College Football Playoff.
