Quentin Tarantino Teaming Up With JJ Abrams For 'Star Trek' Story Pitch

Set phasers to stun The film series was rebooted in 2009 and has had two sequels so far

The 54-year-old Oscar-winner is interested in directing the next Star Trek movie and even has "a great idea" according to a Monday report from Deadline. Now that a writer's room is being assembled to put the wheels in motion, and with mega-producer J.J. Abrams backing the auteur director's vision for the potential film, it's a genuine possibility that "Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek" is actually on the horizon.

Turning A Classic Episode Into A Movie?

Tarantino's gone on record with his love of this franchise before, so it's not entirely shocking to learn the director might have a Star Trek story up his sleeve worth telling.

J.J. helmed the two Star Trek films for Paramount in 2009 and 2013, but is now busy working on the Star Wars franchise. As TrekMovie reported in September, Tarantino's name entered the Trek sphere after his remarks on a Nerdist podcast in 2015 began recirculating around the web. "You could take some of the classic Star Trek episodes and easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some incredible, wonderful stuff".

Conductor James Levine facing sexual abuse allegations
According to the report, the alleged abuse occurred when Levine, now 74, was a conductor at the Ravinia Music Festival in IL . In his complaint, the victim also detailed how Levine masturbated in front of him and kissed his penis.

Folloing the release of Star Trek Beyond in 2016, Paramount announced plans for a fourth film focusing on Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and his deceased father (Chris Hemsworth).

Are you excited about the prospect of a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie? Moving beyond this stage would require a great deal of work before Paramount would consider greenlighting the project.

He is best known for work on his original film projects. However, he has served as a for-hire director in television before, helming episodes of both ER and CSI.
