Roy Moore's strategist ties Senate candidate to Trump's star

In the final days before Tuesday's special election, opinion polls show a tight race between Moore, a 70-year-old conservative Christian and former state judge, and Democrat Doug Jones, a 63-year-old former USA attorney.

President Donald Trump has recorded automated phone messages urging support for Republican Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race.

Moore, who is running against Democrat Doug Jones in a special election Tuesday to fill the Senate vacancy left by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has been accused by several women of pursuing sexual relationships with them when they were teenagers, molesting a 14-year-old and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old when he was in his 30s.

He says: "This is Donald Trump on trial in Alabama".

Moore's candidacy has been rocked by allegations of sexual misconduct by multiple women.

Chicago Cubs agree to deal with Tyler Chatwood
Adding Chatwood boosts a rotation that will likely lose former Cy Young Award victor Jake Arrieta and veteran John Lackey . On Thursday, the Cubs announced that they've signed pitcher Tyler Chatwood to a three-year deal through the 2020 season.

Moore has denied the misconduct allegations and said they were a result of "dirty politics".

Numerous Republicans have called on Moore to step aside in the race. She also said she's troubled that Moore has been removed from the Alabama Supreme Court twice for failure to "follow lawful judicial orders".

Alabama's Christian conservatives see Moore as their champion. The election could have major implications for the balance of power in the Senate, where Republicans have a slight edge.

Washington has been roiled by sexual misconduct scandals, with accusations leading to the resignations last week of three members of Congress.
