Black Caps all out for 373 in first innings against West Indies

New Zealand still holds the advantage in the match and two-Test series after winning the first Test at Wellington by an innings and 67 runs.

Sunil Ambris trod on the stumps for the second time in his career when he was on two, while stand-in captain Kraigg Brathwaite was sent packing by De Grandhomme after a spirited knock of 66, which came off 116 balls and included nine boundaries and a six.

The 33-year-old raised his bat during the final session of Monday's play at Seddon Park before the host declared on 291-8 in its second innings - a lead of 443. Southee and Boult starred with bat and ball as the West Indies were left struggling 158 runs behind on the first innings with only two wickets remaining.

New Zealand won the first test by an innings and 67 runs in Wellington and achieved a win in the second test which was nearly as comprehensive. He then unsettled Mitchell Santner with a sustained spell of short pitched bowling, striking the New Zealand allrounder on the helmet. Raval - who missed out on a century in the first innings - was caught and bowled by in-form paceman Cummins (3-69), while Latham was trapped lbw by debutant Raymon Reifer (1-52) as the Black Caps slumped to 42-2.

After scoring an unbeaten 107 that helped New Zealand set West Indies a huge 444-run target, he paid tribute to his mentor, the late Martin Crowe.

Brathwaite then fell to a superb catch by Southee off de Grandhomme.

"He always said when there is a butterfly that's (me) and there was a butterfly out there when I was on about 70 so that was pretty good".

"The team situation was first and foremost in our minds and it was nice to get out there and get a bit of a score", Taylor said.

His second Test innings in Wellington were also full of emotions.

Earlier Sunday, a quickfire last-wicket partnership of 61 in 41 minutes between Southee and Boult strengthened New Zealand's overnight position. "We put on some valuable runs there at the end".
