Gorgeous Miss World contestant compelled to flee homeland over selfie hits again

Sarah Idan represents Iraq in the 2017 Miss Universe Pageant at The Axis at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino

Adar told Hadashot News channel that Sarah lives in United States of America and her family has been forced to flee the country after receiving threats to their lives over Sarah's bikini photoshoot and a selfie she posted with Miss Israel on Instagram. She and her family left the country after facing death threats, Miss Israel said.

'When I posted the picture I didn't think for a second there would be blowback, Ms Idan, originally from Baghdad and now living in the USA, told CNN.

"I woke up to calls from my family and the Miss Iraq organisation going insane". She did not take down the picture though.

Nearly a month ago, Sarah Idan was in the Miss Universe pageant as a contestant representing Iraq for the first time in 45 years. She shared the snap with caption, "Peace and Love from Miss Iraq and Miss Israel".

Idan was the first woman to represent her country at the worldwide beauty pageant in 45 years.

'This picture doesn't mean I support the Israeli government or its polices towards Arab countries.

I want to apologize to everyone who considered this as undermining the Palestinian cause since this was not the objective of the publication.

Java quake kills at least three people and damages buildings
Some residents of high rise apartment buildings in central Jakarta quickly escaped their apartments, local media reported. According to US Geological Survey measurements the natural disaster had a 6.5 magnitude and a depth of 91 kilometers.

Many countries in the region, like Iraq, do not have formal diplomatic relations with Israel.

"I want to stress that the objective of the picture was only to express hope and desire for peace between the two countries", she wrote, adding that the photo with Gandelsman is not indicative of support for the Israeli government or a lack of support for the Palestinian cause. It made me a better person. She then moved to the US.

Idan, a Muslim, was born and raised in Baghdad.

Idan grew up in Baghdad, and at the age of 18, started working with the U.S. military as a linguist.

In Arabic, Sarah Idan said Gandelsman told her 'she hopes that one day there will be peace between the two religions (Judaism and Islam)' Gandelsman, 19, posted on her own Instagram account: 'This is Miss Iraq and she's awesome'. At 27, she is a "singer, songwriter and musician", and in 2016, won the Miss Iraq USA title in MI.

In 2014, her country's Miss Universe contestant provoked uproar by posing with her counterpart from Lebanon, another Arab country with which the Jewish state is still technically at war.
