Apple plans to unify iOS, Mac apps next year

Apple may let the same app work on across iOS and Macs

Developers now must design two different apps - one for iOS, the operating system of Apple's mobile devices, and one for macOS, the system that runs Macs. This will likely help bolster the offerings in their macOS App Store which is languishing behind its iOS sibling. To combat this polarizing situation on both platforms, it is being reported that Apple will allow iOS apps to work on macOS. Unclear is whether Apple would merge the App Store and Mac App Store, which are now separate entities. Apple has also introduced T1 and T2 ARM processors into certain Macs, potentially enabling them to run iOS code directly. Additionally, the Mac App Store is something I'd wager most users hardly ever open, except to install software updates. This has had limited success, in part because there's always going to be one or more platforms that developers just don't care to serve. While plans for this feature remain fluid, it doesn't appear Apple is backing away from doing it.

Right now, developers use UIKit on iOS and AppKit on the Mac to create GUI applications.

The apps would work with either a touchscreen or a mouse, much in the same fashion as Microsoft's Windows platform and apps now work.

Disney Releases First Trailer for 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms'
Helen Mirren also joins the film as the regent for the Fourth Tyrant, where Clara must go in order to retrieve the coveted key. Grant and ballet stars Misty Copeland and Sergei Polunin also feature in the cast.

Apple fans will have access to apps that work on both macOS and iOS, from next year, according to a report on Wednesday.

The new universal app system could be announced during Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference during the summer, when the company usually tends to reveal upcoming software improvements. With a single app for all machines, Mac, iPad and iPhone users will get new features and updates at the same time. Apple wasn't immediately available to discuss its plans.

Apple has not confirmed or denied this report. The search engine company brought the Playmobile app store to some laptops running on desktop Chrome OS. On the iPad, the same app can be used in different layouts depending on how it is being presented, full-screen or in Split View multitasking. Kon also demanded that Apple stop selling devices displaying the logo in question (which is, basically, any device with access to App Store) until judgement is delivered.
