Wade Davis agrees to 3-year, $52M deal with Rockies

On Friday, the Colorado Rockies went all in, signing electric 32-year-old closer Wade Davis to a three year, $52 million contract.

Rockies manager Bud Black and pitching coach Steve Foster played a significant role in recruiting Davis to Colorado, said a source.

The Rockies have been eyeing a big-name closer this year, setting their sights on Davis and last year's closer, Greg Holland, who opted for free agency after the season.

Hours extended to prepay 2018 Hennepin Co. property taxes
That's led some tax advisers to urge prepayment of 2018 property taxes before the year ends to maximize those deductions in 2017. The tax warrant has gone to local tax collectors, and people interested in prepayment will need to do so at the local level.

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Wade Davis (71) pitches in the eighth inning against the Washington Nationals during game five of the 2017 NLDS playoff baseball series at Nationals Park. Davis won a World Series ring with the Royals in 2015 and helped the Cubs to another World Series appearance past year. The Cubs do have all those young position players, and remember that Davis was acquired in an offseason trade with the Royals. The Rockies' bullpen is now stacked beyond belief and despite his age and small step back in 2017, Davis should do fine so long as he can get his groundball rate back to where it should be.

With the addition of Davis, the Rockies have guaranteed $106 million on bullpen pitchers this offseason. Earlier this winter, the Rockies re-signed Jake McGee and added longtime Indians reliever Bryan Shaw to help fortify their bullpen.

The fact that the Rockies were willing to commit so much money to Davis shows they're serious about being competitive. Morrow could be the Cubs' closer in 2018.
