Hollywood actresses, writers launch project to fight sexual harassment

Since October, when dozens of women began coming forward to accuse producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, numerous men in prominent industries have been forced to resign over sexual harassment claims, including top editors at NPR.

It includes a legal defense fund that has so far raised some $13.4 million of its $15 million goal to provide subsidized legal support to women and men who were sexually harassed, assaulted or abused in the workplace.

A group of powerful women in Hollywood have launched an action plan to fight systemic sexual harassment in their industry and across all workplaces worldwide.

It also includes an effort to increase gender parity across all industries, including Hollywood.

The group insists that more women must be brought into positions of power and leadership, while every woman should have equal benefits, opportunities, pay and representation. The group rapidly expanded and now includes meetings and workshops for participants in NY and London.

Several of Weinstein's accusers signed the open letter.

Penn State holds off Washington to win Fiesta Bowl
According to a tweet from ESPN's Kyle Bonagura , the 1-8 record is the worst bowl season ever by a Power 5 conference. Before the play, the Huskies (10-3) hadn't allowed a run over 35 yards all season.

Time's Up also wants to put forth legislation to penalize companies that turn a blind eye to harassment, as well as discourage nondisclosure agreements meant to keep victims quiet, according to the Times.

The initiative also requested women actors to wear black at the red carpet of the upcoming Golden Globes Awards.

"For years, we've sold these awards shows as women, with our gowns and colours and our attractive faces and our glamour", Longoria added.

The initiative, dubbed Time's Up, caps a year in which the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal touched off a deluge of allegations that brought down powerful men in entertainment, politics and the media, prompting companies, government agencies and even the USA federal court system to re-examine harassment policies.

Witherspoon said that in the past women have been "siloed off from each other".

Producer and legal defence fund donor Katie McGrath said that many women had realised from early on that they needed to establish what they wanted to achieve, "and what was going to be required in order to shift and pivot from this horror to structural change".
