Triple talaq bill to be introduced in Rajya Sabha today

Triple Talaq Bill to reach Rajya Sabha today all eyes on Congress

CPI's Rajya Sabha member D Raja says that the triple talaq bill has been listed for today, "but as far as Left parties are concerned, we will demand that bill should be referred to Select Committee of Rajya Sabha".

Triple talaq bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha.

"I have complete conviction that Congress will support the Bill the same way it did in Lok Sabha, or else the minority women will not spare them", Union Minister Giriraj Singh told ANI on Monday.

According to Business Standard, the Centre described the voting as "historic" and even said that there is no doubt that the Bill will be passed in Rajya Sabha as well.

The congress has said that it would support the bill but has called for sending it to the standing committee for more discussion.

Penn State holds off Washington to win Fiesta Bowl
According to a tweet from ESPN's Kyle Bonagura , the 1-8 record is the worst bowl season ever by a Power 5 conference. Before the play, the Huskies (10-3) hadn't allowed a run over 35 yards all season.

The bill could get stalled in the Rajya Sabha where government lacks a majority and it may be referred to a parliamentary committee for its review.

However, the BJP is confident of achieving its goal of passing the Bill. The BJP has also issued a whip to its MPs in order to ensure maximum strength at the Parliament. It was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday last week.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has convened a meeting of the leaders of the Congress as well as other parties in his Parliament chamber on Tuesday, before the bill is taken up.

The amendments to the bill moved by the opposition too, were rejected.

The opposition parties including Congress, SP, BSP, AIADMK, DMK, CPI, CPI (M), BJD want detailed deliberations on the criminality clause under which a Muslim man can be sentenced up to three-year imprisonment for abandoning his wife following Talaq-e-biddat or instant triple talaq.
