Two arrested in murder of mother, kids, partner in Troy, New York

Justin C. Mann left and James W. White

Police in Troy, N.Y., arrested two people connecting to the slaying of four people, including two children, found dead in a basement apartment.

The suspects are slated to appear in court January 4, 2018.

The family was killed in their Troy apartment on December 21, but not discovered until five days later, after relatives grew concerned over unreturned phone calls.

Department of Corrections records show Mann was released on parole in June.

Cops say the quadruple murder in Troy, NY of Shanta Myers, bottom left; her children, Shanise, top left, and Jeremiah, and her lover, Brandi Mells, was targeted.

Tedesco said police arrested the men at 9:50 p.m. Friday without incident at 627 Hamilton St., Schenectady, where Mann lived. Both men have public defenders.

Canadian Blood Services in need of donations
United Blood Services of the Dakotas is asking for help to make up for the large decrease in blood donations this holiday season. While some people are spending time at home with their families, others are spending the holidays in the hospital.

According to detectives, Shanta Myers, 36, two of her three children, 11 and 5, and her girlfriend Brandi Mells, 22, were found with their hands and ankles bound and their slit throats on Tuesday.

Both defendants were arraigned in Troy City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail without bail.

According to Tedesco, the arrest came about due to a large portion of investigation based on technological devices. Tedesco and District Attorney Joel Abelove, who appeared at a press conference, declined to answer questions about a possible motive and the method of the killings. They declined to say how the two suspects know each other. He thanked numerous agencies involved and the public for providing tips.

"After being in this business for nearly 42 years, I can't describe the savagery of this", Tedesco said.

"It took weight off my shoulders and weight off my chest because we finally found somebody that found them and they can get off the street where we can have our kids to feel safer", said Khalif Coleman.
