Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry lead West in All-Star voting

Dec 19 2017 Milwaukee WI USA Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo celebrates after making a basket during the fourth quar

The first return for NBA All-Star voting has been released and three Thunder players are now in the mix in the Western Conference.

The usual suspects were among the top vote-getters with Milwaukee Bucks' star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo holding a slim lead over Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James. Behind Antetokounmpo and James are two more of the post-post-James generation-the 76ers' charismatic center Joel Embiid and Kristaps Porzingis of the Knicks. Four-time All-Star Kyrie Irving of the Boston Celtics leads among East guards with 802,834 votes, followed by three-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors (259,368) and Victor Oladipo of the Indiana Pacers (251,886).

Curry and MVP favorite James Harden are the top two guards with Russell Westbrook in third. West game this year-instead, the two captains will pick from the entire pool of players voted in by fans, media and their peers.

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green received 359,442 and 325,612 votes respectively.

The starters and captains will be revealed January 18, and the reserves will be announced Jan, 23.

The setup for this year's All-Star Game, which will be played in Los Angeles on February 18, is different from the traditional format in which the two conferences played against each other. The captains will be the leading vote-getter from each conference. Fans will account for 50 percent, while all current players and a media panel will account for 25 percent each.

The NBA has revealed the leaders of the All-Star balloting after the first 12 days of the fan vote and it has sprung a few surprises.

Durant and Curry aren't the only Golden State players doing well in the fan voting.

Players will be sorted by conference and position (guards and frontcourt players), and the two top guards and three top frontcourt players will be named starters.

NBA.com released the first fan returns on Thursday night.

This shows the growing popularity of the "Greek Freak" and how he is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting players to watch on the court.
