Spirit Airlines Passenger Sexually Assaulted on Flight from Vegas to Detroit

Indian arrested for assaulting a woman in US flight!!

A 34-year-old Indian man was arrested in Michigan, US, for sexually abusing a woman, a co-passenger, on a flight while she was sleeping. Jill Leslie Price of the Federal Defender Office, who appeared with Ramamoorthy, said he was willing to have his home country notified of the charge.

A 22-year-old woman woke up to find a man sexually assaulting her while she slept aboard a Spirit Airlines flight to Detroit.

Federal prosecutor Amanda Jawad said Ramamoorthy stopped after the victim opened her eyes and then the shaken woman immediately alerted flight attendants. She was awoken to find her shirt and trousers unbuttoned with Ramamoorthy digitally penetrating her, according to The Detroit News.

Responding to the situation, the attendants offered the woman a different seat and kept her in the back of the plane. Wayne County Airport Authority took Ramamoorthy into custody when the flight landed at Detroit Metro Airport.

They said she was crying when she came to them and that the buttons on her shirt and pants were undone.

According to the prosecutor, Ramamoorthy said in a written statement that he had taken a pill and fallen into deep sleep. Sharing their side of the story, two flight attendants told federal investigators that the victim was crying and her shirt was untied.

4 jawans martyred, 3 terrorists killed in CRPF camp attack, J&K
The militants initially said to be two, barged into the Lethpora centre from the hillside and killed two CRPF men. Two heavily armed JeM terrorists attacked the camp at about 2 am, said Inspector General of CRPF Ravideep Sahi.

Two flight attendants told federal investigators that the victim was crying and that her shirt was untied and that her trousers were unbuttoned when she had reported the alleged attack at about 5.30am, 40 minutes before the plane's landing, Jawad said. In the statement, he also added that he hadn't done anything apart from learning from his wife that the 22-year-old woman was sleeping on his knees.

But then he admitted to Federal Bureau of Investigation officials that he "might have" unclasped the bra of the woman sleeping next to him, grabbed her breast and unzipped her trousers, according to the publication.

Ramamoorthy gave "conflicting reports", about what happened with the victim, Jawad said.

Though rare, such incidents involving passengers - and even airline staff - have been reported previously on multiple airlines. Magistrate Judge R. Steven Whalen ordered Ramamoorthy to be held pending trial.

Ramamoorthy's lawyer, Richard O'Neill, offered to turn over his client's passport. "There have been no allegations from anywhere that his behavior has ever been inappropriate prior to this incident".

"I have a hard time with some of these allegations but that's what a trial is for", O'Neill said. A spokesman with Spirit Airlines said in an email that it is cooperating with law enforcement.
