Kyle Edmund gets rematch with Grigor Dimitrov in Brisbane quarters

Grigor Dimitrov has Reached the 1/2-final in Brisbane

The British number two was left clutching his ankle in agony after slipping during his Brisbane International quarter-final tie with the Bulgarian star.

The 22-year-old let out a cry of anguish before rolling on the floor, with Dimitrov immediately hopping over the net to help his opponent, who then underwent treatment on the sidelines.

Ranked 50th in the world, Edmund is looking to right the wrongs of last year's Australian Open when he suffered a straight sets second round defeat to Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta.

"At the end of the day, it's health above all", Dimitrov said.

The Ukrainian battled back from 4-0 down to claim the opening set before needing four match points in the second to secure the win.

It was a tense match that went with serve for the most part, with Dimitrov earning the only two breaks - one in the first set and one in the last - on his way to victory. It was very unfortunate what happened, for sure.

"I knew the last two games he wasn't at his best so I just had to find a way again". "But I came in here a little more level-headed (than the Raonic match), had more time to play, and was able to play my best tennis". I'm hitting the ball well and I'm serving really well. That's just me, I guess.

Dimitrov will face Australia's Nick Kyrgios in the semi-final after he overcame Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov 1-6 6-3 6-4.

In the other semi-final Australian wild card Alex de Minaur will face America's Ryan Harrison.

Karolina Pliskova kept her title defense on track with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over 2012 victor Kaia Kanepi, setting up a semifinal against Elina Svitolina. Istomin advanced 7-6 (5), 6-2 over Jared Donaldson and Harrison had a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2 win over Yannick Hanfmann, who was a late addition to the draw after Andy Murray withdrew.
