Teacher handcuffed after questioning superintendent's $38000 raise during school meeting

A chaotic scene broke out at a Louisiana school board meeting after a teacher was arrested, apparently for questioning why the board's superintendent was being given a $38,000 pay raise.

Deyshia Hargrave, an English languages arts teacher at Rene Rost Middle Schools in Kaplan, confronted school board members during the public comments section of the meeting and was escorted out the second time she approached the podium - resulting in a scuffle in the hallway. Something occurred in the hall, and five-foot tall Hargrave fell to her knees and Reggie put the handcuffs on her, then arrested her in the hall as the meeting continued.

"I have a serious issue with a superintendent or any person of leadership getting any type of raise", said Hargrave. "We work very hard with very little to maintain the salaries that we have".

Hargrave reportedly told district Superintendent Jerome Puyau that it was a "slap in the face" that he was receiving a raise. She bonded out that night. I don't care if the performance targets are met - you're making our jobs even more hard.

With the board seemingly uninterested in answering the educator's concerns, an Abbeville city marshal then charged into view, confronted the woman, and demanded she leave the crowded meeting.

MPs Call For A 'Latte Levy'
The issue is that although takeaway cups are made of paper, they are lined with polyethylene, which is hard to remove. Creagh said coffee shops have been "pulling the wool" over customers' eyes by saying their cups are recyclable.

Hargrave was arrested for resisting an officer and remaining after being forbidden, but the school system is not pressing charges, KATC reported.

The Abbeville Police Department says they have received numerous emails and phone calls about the arrest but all questions concerning this incident should be made to the Vermilion Parish School Board.

In short order, she was being handcuffed. She is heard responding: "I am not - you just pushed me to the floor".

It's misty if the marshal got orders from board individuals or in the event that he was following up on his own.
