Ecuador Wants Wikileaks's Assange out of London Embassy, Stay 'Untenable'

Updated | Ecuador says it has granted nationality to Julian Assange after the British government denied a request to grant the WikiLeaks founder diplomatic status.

Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Ecuador's foreign minister, told reporters on Thursday that the South American country accepted Assange's application for naturalisation in December.

Swedish law enforcement officials dropped the sexual assault investigation into Assange a year ago, but British authorities have said that they will still arrest him if he leaves the embassy.

The British foreign ministry said in a statement that Ecuador had "recently requested diplomatic status for Mr Assange here in the UK".

Assange, who denies the rape allegations, fears that if he is arrested he will be handed over to the United States to face prosecution over WikiLeaks' publication of thousands of classified military and diplomatic documents in one of the largest information leaks in USA history.

Assange had been wanted on assault claims in Sweden, but that case against him has been dropped. The following year, Ecuador demands that Britain allows Assange to fly to Quito.

Egyptian TV hosts deny being ordered to publicly back Trump Jerusalem move
Trump's decision, the Times said, citing taped conversations. "We have enough on our plate as you know", Kholi said to the hosts. The other calls were with Mofid Fawzy, who denied speaking to el-Kholi, and with Egyptian singer and actress Youssra.

Ecuador has confirmed the WikiLeaks founder was made a citizen on December 12 after he made a request in September. The country's media reports the whistleblower has been granted an Ecuadorian passport.

In July 2014 a Swedish court upholds the European arrest warrant against Assange and in November Assange loses an appeal against the arrest warrant.

In March, Swedish prosecutors offer to question Assange in London.

The Wikileaks founder has been in the building for five and a half years, fearful that he will be arrested and extradited to the USA if he steps outside. The Ecuadorian government has granted him political asylum. He sought asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and today police have said he will still face arrest if he leaves.

ECUADOR wants Julian Assange out of its embassy in London and is seeking a "third country or a personality" to mediate a final settlement with Britain.

Assange fuelled rumours by Tweeting a photo of himself in the Ecuador national football team kit.
