Trump speaks to farmers, highlighting taxes and trade

U.S. President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump prepares to address the crowd in Nashville on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the American Farm Bureau Federation's 99th Annual Convention.

Trump mentioned trade, which is something farmers have expressed concern about, especially the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Joined by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and a group of Tennessee lawmakers, Trump said most of the benefits of the tax legislation are "going to working families, small businesses, and who - the family farmer".

Trump also supports rolling back the Environmental Protection Agency's Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule, which affects farmers and ranchers.

On April 25, 2017, President Trump signed an Executive Order establishing the task force "to ensure the informed exercise of regulatory authority that impacts agriculture and rural communities".

The address Monday was the first by a USA president to the group since 1992, and Trump stressed things he has recently signed into law, including tax cuts and deregulation, that he said would propel the US farming community.

Trump criticized ESPN in October in response to "SportsCenter" host Jemelle Hill tweeting that the president was a "white supremacist".

Kanye West fulfills fan dying of cancer's final wish
Last May a young man named Tyler Wesley marked the five-year anniversary of his spinal cord injury that left him in a wheelchair. The girl had apparently passed on January 1 but received a wonderful gesture from Kanye in her final days.

And every Democrat in Congress, Trump noted, "voted against tax cuts for the American farmer and the American worker". "But we're going to make it fair for you people again".

"Farm country is God's country", Trump said to another standing ovation.

President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order encouraging rural broadband deployment by speeding up permitting processes for facilities on federal land and allowing wireless broadband equipment to be co-located on federally-owned towers. He will be heading to Tennessee on same day to appeal to key demographic, farmers who helped him the most for being elected, as promoting his administration's tax law and previewing a recent White House strategy that helps rural America.

Trump also said he looks to support an on-time farm bill.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson says the halftime song at the College Football Championship game should be "We Shall Overcome".

The second loudest was reserved for the president's comments about standing up for the national anthem and the American flag.

"Broadband access and developing rural community, building stronger rural communities will definitely help our kids out", Miller said. "No doubt, rural America has struggled under burdensome regulations with no voice in Washington, but under President Trump's leadership, and with the work of this task force, we can turn that around and restore rural prosperity once and for all".
