Facebook changes its news feed to focus on friends and family

Facebook's move to highlight posts from friends and family over those from brands and publications follows months of turmoil for the social network and will result in lower advertising revenue - at least in the short term, analysts said. Those include personal posts from friends or family, and especially those looking for a suggestion or sparking a conversation.

The American Internet entrepreneur said they have recently obtained feedback from the community that public content is crowding out personal moments. It would take some practice of course-the existing curation is useful because it lets users see a handful of items rather than the hundreds or thousands of things people post-but a company as clever as Facebook can surely provide tools to winnow down the scope on their own.

"We think that we're now slightly overvaluing how much time people spend on our platform and undervaluing how many meaningful interactions they have with other people", said Mosseri. However, with Facebook now aiming to changing its identity, these overhauls will look to address this by prioritising meaningful posts between those connected on the platform.

"While we are a dominant news publisher on Facebook, we also employ strategies for diverse social media referral so as not to be dependent on any one source", said Ron Waksman, vice president of digital and editorial standards and practices for Global News and Corus Radio. He further wrote, "By making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down".

"But none of that matters if our services are used in a way that doesn't bring people closer together", said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on their November earnings call. "On January 11, the social media giant announced that it would change the algorithm of its news feed so that it would "prioritize what [users"] friends and family share and comment on", according to The New York Times.

On Saturday, the national stadium in the capital, Riyadh, will open its gates for women to attend a soccer game. Females were in attendance at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah to witness Al-Ahli defeat Al-Batin 5-0.

This news feed ranking update is more about intensifying the content and things people hold dearie.

Mic, Mashable, Bored Panda, and so many other publishers have built most of their business around the content favored by Facebook's ever-changing algorithm.

Facebook's product teams have focused heavily over the past few years on helping users find new content that is relevant to their interests. We've seen people interact way more around live videos than regular ones. In other words, they de-emphasize content from the brands and publishers they liked.

As CNN commented, "With more than two billion monthly users, any change Facebook makes can be a seismic event". But too often today, watching video, reading news or getting a page update is just a passive experience. Facebook has introduced a series of changes meant to address the problem.

The Portal device is rumored to be released in the second half and will start off at $499 per unit, which is significantly higher than its rivals Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomePod, but could still be lowered in order to have a better chance in the market.
