Train crash at Richmond, NSW

Multiple ambulances have been sent to the scene

Monday morning's meeting was delayed after a train ploughed into a barrier at Richmond Station, injuring more than a dozen people.

NSW Fire and Rescue said three people were initially trapped inside the train, but have now been freed.

Brett Saunders witnessed the crash just before 10am, which he described as "horrifying".

Train operator New South Wales (NSW) Trains said they were aware of the incident and that the train had ran into a buffer at Richmond Station.

A train has hit the buffers at Richmond station, in Sydney's north-west, with reports of multiple injuries.

Triage area has been set up at the scene to assess and treat injured passengers.

He said it appeared that those injured had suffered mostly "bumps and bruises", suggesting that the train had hit the buffer at a low speed.

Two patients were reported to have spinal injuries.

Three people have been taken to Westmead Hospital, according to ABC News. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

"I was straight onto the train as soon as I seen people were injured ..."

One caller to Sydney's 2GB radio who saw the crash said there was an "almighty bang".

Asked whether he was comfortable with the Waratah train fleet, he said there was "ongoing regulation of the railway from both the national body and in terms of the work Sydney Trains do". "There was a huge amount of dust", he said.

Another day of negotiations has ended without result as NSW rail workers and Sydney Trains bosses continue to discuss pay and working conditions one week before a planned strike.
