A woman fell overboard from a Carnival cruise ship en route to Mexico Sunday night - just two days after another woman died when she tumbled off a balcony on board another Carnival vessel.

Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliken told news outlets that a 44-year-old woman fell from the Carnival Triumph on Sunday night.

Search-and-rescue operations were underway, Carnival said.

After stopping in Cozumel, the ship was to visit Progreso on Tuesday before returning to New Orleans on Thursday.

"We weren't [allowed] off the boat to Freeport until they investigated it".

Pence Middle East trip begins in Egypt, talks terrorism
The Palestinians have frozen contacts with the Trump administration and have said Pence would not meet any Palestinian leaders. Pence's upcoming visit to Israel comes as part of a wider regional tour that will also take him to Egypt and Jordan.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Jacksonville Sheriff's Department, FBI, and Bahamian law enforcement are now assisting in the investigation. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family".

No more details were immediately available about the circumstances of the woman's fall.

Friday's incident is the second death aboard a Carnival Cruise Lines ship in recent months.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, died early Friday morning on the Elation, which was traveling from Jacksonville, Florida to The Bahamas, the Miami Herald reported. The Carnival cruise ship is scheduled to arrive back in the United States on January 25, 2018.
