Burger King Has an Opinion on Net Neutrality

The customers become frustrated when they learn they have to pay more to get a burger faster, even if the burger is already made and ready. "That is why we created this experiment, to call attention to the potential effects of net neutrality".

The video is meant to educate patrons and viewers about the FCC's decision in December to repeal net neutrality.

Engadget's Mallory Locklear wrote that the ad "doesn't really do a great job at explaining net neutrality".

"The Burger King brand believes the Internet should be like the Whopper sandwich: the same for everyone", the fast-food giant added.

Weeks after the vote, Burger King has joined a long list of late-night hosts, Democratic lawmakers, mainstream media outlets, and liberal activists on social media who decried the FCC decision as a threat to a free and open internet.

Microsoft announces $189 classroom laptops and Office 365 dictation
The cheapest of the new laptops is a the $189 Lenovo 100e, equipped with Intel's Apollo Lake-series Celeron processor. A big part of today's Office updates is the new update to OneNote Class Notebook.

Most of the popular net neutrality discussion in the past year has been reduced to this idea of "fast and slow lanes", which refers to deliberate throttling of internet content.

Pai steered the agency in December to a party line vote that eliminated Obama-era rules on net neutrality.

What: A new Burger King ad that uses its signature burger to raise awareness on the issue of net neutrality.

The video below shows the reactions of customers who went to Burger King and ordered a Whopper, but with an option of three different price points. "The same for everyone", then "change.org/savethenet", then a tweak at FCC chair Ajit Pai's now-famous ever-growing Reese's coffee mug, with the Burger King drinking from a similar, oversized, mug. "The Burger King brand reenacted what this repeal could mean at the counter with people buying Whopper sandwiches", the company explained.

Amusing though the video is, it does an admirable job to cutting to the important parts of net neutrality: the unfairness and overt profiteering that can exist without healthy competition or rules preventing anti-consumer pricing policies.
