White House Eyes End of Funding for Space Station

Nasa could pull out of ISS after Trump administration hints at dropping funding by 2025

President Trump's administration is set to stop support for the International Space Station by 2025, The Verge reported Wednesday after obtaining a draft budget proposal. This could be detrimental for NASA, which would cause it to have no destination for space travel.

Details of the budget haven't been finalized, but there are reports that indicate that this change will be included in the final budget. The wording in the draft suggested eventually transitioning activities in lower Earth orbit, where the station resides, to commercial space companies. And it's an expensive place to visit: Every year, NASA spends between $3 and 4 billion on the space station, totaling about $87 billion since the project first began in 1993. The ISS is scheduled to be decommissioned by 2028, when it will become nonoperational due to thermal and mechanical stress that it accumulated over its lifetime.

Donald Trump's administration has touted big plans for NASA in the past few months, but it hasn't been willing to put up much cash.

The new policy will also "establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars and perhaps, someday, to many worlds beyond", the President had remarked. This cut could hurt NASA's program once again. Russian Federation also manages the Soyuz program, which is now the only way for astronauts to get to or from the space station. Whenever that day comes, the ISS will be pulled out of space and buried in the Pacific Ocean-it's too unsafe to leave the corpse up there, no matter how expensive that corpse was to build.

To compensate for the lack of space shuttles, the plan was to get private companies involved.

Burger King Has an Opinion on Net Neutrality
The video is meant to educate patrons and viewers about the FCC's decision in December to repeal net neutrality. What: A new Burger King ad that uses its signature burger to raise awareness on the issue of net neutrality.

The ISS is also aided by the private SpaceX firm, serving as a cargo delivery ship for the astronauts. It has been seven years, and they're close but still haven't been able to take people there.

Ending funding would be detrimental to NASA, which uses the station to test new technology and train astronauts.

"If the leak proves to be true, it could have some interesting ramifications for commercial human spaceflight". Last year, Congress and the president told NASA to work on a transition plan that would let the agency keep visiting the space station without racking up such hefty room service bills.

The ISS is the largest human-made body in low Earth orbit, and can often be seen with the naked eye.
