BMC to probe mans death after getting sucked in MRI machine

In a rather unfortunate incident in Mumbai, a 32-year-old man died after being sucked into a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine in the city's Nair hospital on Saturday.

Despite staff members trying to pull him out, the force was so strong that it sucked his hand in and the cylinder got stuck inside. He was allegedly allowed to enter the MRI room at BYL Nair Charitable Hospital with a metal oxygen cylinder, which was helping the patient breathe. A police case been registered against the doctor, ward boy and ward attendant for causing death by negligence. He added that he and the ward boy managed to pull Maru out of the MRI but "his body was swollen and he was bleeding heavily", NDTV reported.

According to Maru's brother-in-law, Harish Solanki, the deceased had gone to visit his mother who was admitted to the hospital.

Solanki further said the MRI machine was functioning when Maru was called in, though the hospital has denied it. The patient was given an oxygen cylinder to breathe from and Maru was carrying it for her while she was taken for an MRI scan. The police has also filed an FIR in this regard against unknown persons.

Blue Moon in Qatar skies next Wednesday
During that time, the moon will appear in the sky with a reddish tint to it, which is commonly referred to as a blood moon . By the way, the whole double blue moon thing only happens about four times a century and not again until 2037.

Solanki said the ward boy told them that the oxygen cylinder could be carried inside the MRI room despite the objection raised by the patient's family members. Maru was taken to the emergency room where he died shortly after.

"Maru's finger got crushed in the machine. However, the ward boy told us that the MRI machine was not switched on", he said. The police investigation continues, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident. Rajesh's post-mortem was conducted at JJ Hospital and the report suggests that he died due to pneumothorax, an abnormal collection of air in the pleural space between the lung and the chest. It all happened because of the carelessness of hospital's doctors and administration. The incident occurred at the BMC-run Nair Hospital.

According to the Times of India, Mr Solanki said the family hesitated at first but the ward boy assured them that the machine was not on and that it was fine to do so.

The state government of Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital, announced compensation of 500,000 rupees ($7,870) for the victim's family.
