IS claims Kabul attack on military academy, killing 5 troops

Local media reports claim that the Marshal Fahim National Defense University was assaulted early Monday morning by local militants

In that incident, which was claimed by the Pakistan-based Haqqani network, Afghan authorities say the attackers killed at least 18 people, including 12 foreigners, during the 12-hour standoff with security forces. One of the militants involved in the attack has been arrested, TOLO News reported. The wounded soldiers are being treated at hospital. He said first a suicide bomber blew himself up, and later three armed attackers started shooting. "They are under siege by our forces", said Waziri. Afghan officials said RPGs (Rocket-Propelled Grenade) being used and gunfire still being heard.

In October a Taliban suicide bomber killed 15 Afghan army trainees as they travelled home from the Marshal Fahim academy.

Both of those attacks were claimed by the Taliban.

All five attackers were killed.

Zeman has exploited widespread fear of migration among Czechs and worked to portray Drahos as someone who would welcome migrants. Zeman backed Donald Trump for the U.S. presidency before Trump's election in 2016 a rare position among leaders in Europe .

The blasts occurred days after an ambulance bomb in the centre of Kabul killed more than 100 people and just over a week after a separate attack on the Hotel Intercontinental killed more than 20. The explosive device was planted in an ambulance and went off at a police checkpoint in a Taliban-claimed attack.

But there is still confusion over the true toll from that attack with conflicting figures given by officials and Afghan media reporting higher numbers. Security warnings sent to foreigners in recent days said ISIS militants were planning to attack supermarkets, hotels and shops frequented by foreigners.

On Wednesday, an assault on the offices of Save the Children in Jalalabad killed six people.
