David Beckham launches new Major League Soccer team in Miami

MLS sets ceremony to announce Beckham's Miami franchise

Today, after a years-long attempt to bring a professional soccer team to the city, it's official. One of the final pieces in the deal, Claure and Beckham said, was securing the participation of Jorge and Jose Mas, owners of a Miami construction firm who are Cuban-Americans with deep ties to the city.

"Our mission to bring an MLS club to Miami is now complete, and we are deeply satisfied, grateful and excited", Beckham said in a statement released by the MLS.

"We plan to be in the league in 2020, we hope to have the stadium built by 2021, so there is a lot of work to be done before we think about the players that we want to bring in", he said.

Former England captain Beckham has made clear his intention to become a team owner in MLS since signing for the Los Angeles Galaxy as a player in 2007. "We have to set up the academy, that's the first thing we do, and then we go from there".

"We know the right people are in place and the time is right for Miami to become a great Major League Soccer city". After many trials and tribulations, and with the help of our incredible partners, here we are now announcing our franchise in the fantastic city of Miami. That's why, for me, I never gave up. Beckham came to MLS as the league's first Designated Player with the goal of elevating the sport of soccer in America. "This is when we're going to be proud of our team".

Beckham headed the ownership group for the MLS expansion side and, while famous sporting names such as Tom Brady, Serena Williams, Wladimir Klitschko and Neymar simply had encouraging words, Bolt appeared with an ulterior motive.

White House Eyes End of Funding for Space Station
Russian Federation also manages the Soyuz program, which is now the only way for astronauts to get to or from the space station. The ISS is also aided by the private SpaceX firm, serving as a cargo delivery ship for the astronauts.

The franchise rights will cost Beckham $25 million, according to multiple reports, which is well below the market rate. The former Manchester United and England star is getting a fantastic bargain - the Nashville team will be paying $150 million to enter the league as the 24th franchise. Other members of Beckham's group include Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, entertainment entrepreneur Simon Fuller and South Florida businessman Jorge Mas - who tried unsuccessfully to buy the Miami Marlins past year.

Miami used to have an MLS team called Miami Fusion between 1998 and 2001 but the team folded due to poor attendances.

"I've always believed in the project".

"I started my dream to bring MLS to Miami in 2008, and in 2014, joined forces with David and Simon". "I'm a persistent person and I don't like to lose".

The latest proposed site is in the Overtown neighbourhood where the group has purchased six acres of land and has an agreement for three more acres after a deal with Miami Dade County authorities.
