The videos included in News Feed "help you get information on important privacy topics like how to control what information Facebook uses to show you ads, how to review and delete old posts, and even what it means to delete your account", said the company's chief privacy officer Erin Egan in a blog post. Facebook's privacy principles outline how the company approaches privacy, like giving users control of the data they own, and helping them understand how its used and secured.

The push will also include a series of educational videos that clarify how people can take greater control over their data on the social network. They are the latest European headache for Facebook and other technology companies that have for years been taking flak from regulators and lawmakers over taxes, privacy, collection and use of data and terrorist content. It as well invites the users to go through its Privacy Checkup as an extension of the campaign, for the better experience in managing data. "We're rolling out a new privacy centre globally that will put the core privacy settings for Facebook in one place and make it much easier for people to manage their data", said Sandberg in a recent event that took place in Brussels.

Last but not the least, Facebook is working on resources to help other companies in terms of privacy services. The new videos will appear in the News Feed in the near future.

The new tools had been hinted at by COO Sheryl Sandberg last week and mark a change in attitude at Facebook, which has at times come under fire for how it handles personal information.

Halep, Federer, Chung through to semi-finals

We design privacy into our products from the outset.

From a press release issued last week: "The Commission wants to ensure that all actors - European Union governments, national data protection authorities, companies and citizens - are ready for its entry into force on 25 May 2018".

Many believe that the announcement made by Facebook is a sign that large tech companies are getting ready for this new Law.

"The release of these privacy principles was to essentially get ahead of the GDPR", said Frances Zelazny, the vice president of BioCatch, a security company that uses behavioral biometrics.
