Casino mogul Steve Wynn

Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn resigned as finance chairman of the Republican Party's fundraising arm on Saturday, a day after a newspaper reported that he routinely subjected women who worked for him to unwanted sexual advances.

House Speaker Paul Ryan says he's giving a $1,000 donation from Wynn to charity.

Wynn donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republican party committees over the years, including the RNC and its congressional counterparts, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said that if Republicans "have accepted contributions recently from him that have not been spent", they should give those back.

"I don't even think it's a close call to return the money", Collins said on CNN's "State of the Union". "The unbelievable success we have achieved must continue".

Wynn claims the allegations relate to the break-up of his marriage.

But RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has reportedly accepted his resignation and spoke with President Trump about the situation earlier Saturday, according to Politico. The committee is scheduled to convene in Washington this week for its annual winter meeting.

After allegations against entertainment executive Harvey Weinstein surfaced previous year, McDaniel and other GOP leaders quickly called on Democrats to return his donations.
