Police in Seville find four TONNES of oranges crammed into 'suspicious' cars

Thieves try to steal 4,000kg of oranges

When police in Spain noticed some suspicious driving, a short auto chase ended with five robbery arrests and a ton of oranges.

Five people were arrested, comprising a couple, their adult son and two brothers, and will be charged in court for theft.

Police in Seville, Spain, caught five people with 4,000 kilos of stolen oranges earlier this week.

After a short chase, the officers searched the vehicles and were astonished to find them stuffed to the brim with the juicy fruit.

Oranges overflowed from one vehicle, while the other contained hundreds of oranges packed into bags.

The team is comprised of a head coach, two coaching assistants and 12 players. Three North Korean athletes will compete in the cross-country skiing.

The suspects also reportedly claimed the oranges were for personal consumption. When police tried to pull the cars over, the vehicles took off leading to officers chasing them through a dirt road.

A third vehicle was also discovered in connection with the mass theft, carrying even more oranges.

The drivers were unable to explain where the oranges came from, saying the "fruit came from very far away and that they had picked them up from the ground". The cops still suspected their origin, and it was soon discovered that the oranges were stolen from a shipment.

They lacked the proper permits, however, to be carrying that much fruit.
