Suns guard Isaiah Canaan suffered a season-ending ankle injury Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks

Phoenix Suns guard Isaiah Canaan drove to the basket during the final seconds of the first quarter Wednesday night and was fouled by the Dallas Mavericks, but his left ankle gave way upon his landing. and the results were absolutely ugly to see.

The game was stopped for several minutes as Canaan was carried off the court on a stretcher. Canaan's bone was reportedly visible through the skin, per reporters at the game, and both team's visceral reactions to the play summed it up.

"It's hard for fans and everyone sitting right there, and teammates especially, a guy they battle with every day", said Suns interim coach Jay Triano after the Suns' 102-88 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Canaan had been carving out a role in Phoenix for himself, averaging more than nine points and four assists off the bench for the Suns.
