Portia de Rossi surprises Ellen DeGeneres with emotional gift

Ellen DeGeneres

The actress was a surprise guest on the Finding Dory star's USA talk show this week (beg29Jan18), and showed up with a very special present to mark the 60th birthday of her spouse of nine years.

"We are very happy about the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund, and we will support it to meet its objectives in Rwanda", she noted.

She said: "I wanna take a moment to say, everybody in the audience is here for a special reason".

Among those sitting in on the show were Kenya and John Hughes, a couple who used their own money to drive a U-Haul 800 miles to carry supplies to survivors of Hurricane Harvey.

The $1-million giveaway comes hours after DeGeneres's wife, Portia De Rossi, surprised the talk show host with her birthday gift.

Killer whales can 'talk' as scientists teach orcas to mimic human speech
Whales are among the few animals other than humans that can learn to produce a novel sound just by hearing it. Their newly-published research suggests whales' ability to imitate sounds helps them communicate in the wild.

Fossey is a hero of DeGeneres' and one of the most important animal conservationists in history. Of course, every audience member did. But for one incredibly lucky studio audience, they left with way more than that-they each left with a share of a $1 million gift from Ellen. "Hold onto your Cheerios because all of you are splitting one million dollars!"

DeGeneres said in a statement Thursday that she is "beyond excited" about the opportunity to work with the group. Now, you will join Dian as a protector and champion of these awesome animals, the mountain gorillas.

There was also a highlight video that showcased DeGeneres's career that ranged from her first appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson to her monumental coming-out episode on her sitcom Ellen.

As part of the Million Acts of Good campaign in collaboration with Cheerios, she was able to surprise everyone in the audience with the largest giveaway to date. Fossey was known for her extensive study of mountain gorillas, and for helping to establish the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

While Ellen was playing a game of "Show Did/Show Didn't", in which she was challenged to recall previous interactions with celebrity guests as fact or fiction, the ABC late-night host surprised her by turning a "Show Didn't" into a "Show Did" on the spot. "When we got married, Portia's line was, 'It's good to be loved".
