5 injured in U.S. school shooting

After the Sal Castro school shooting readers ask How does a 12-year-old get access to a gun

The 12-year-old girl was booked on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm after the shooting at Sal Castro Middle School.

A young man said he dropped everything and rushed to Sal Castro Middle School when his little sister called him and said, "Someone just got shot, I need you".

The district began requiring the daily searches with metal-detecting wands in 2011 after two students were injured in a shooting at Gardena High School, district officials said. "They thought it was a fake gun".

When authorities arrived on the scene, they had found a boy with a gunshot wound to the head, a girl with trauma to her wrist, and several others with minor injuries. The 16-year-old killed a principal and a custodian and injured eight children.

The boy, who was shot in the temple, was in stable condition Thursday afternoon, and was expected to fully recover, said Dr. Carl Chudnofsky of L.A. County-USC Medical Center. "I had the gun in my backpack and I didn't know it was loaded and my backpack fell and the gun went off", Jordan Valenzuela, 12, said of what the crying girl told him, according to The Associated Press.

Officers were seen bringing students out of classrooms after the incident and the school was declared safe hours later.

Sgt. Edward Bernal of the Los Angeles School Police Department (LAPD) told KTLA television that the condition of the victims is now unknown.

Police in Seville find four TONNES of oranges crammed into 'suspicious' cars
After a short chase, the officers searched the vehicles and were astonished to find them stuffed to the brim with the juicy fruit. When police in Spain noticed some suspicious driving, a short auto chase ended with five robbery arrests and a ton of oranges .

"I'm kind of afraid for my safety", said Oswaldo Gonzalez, 11, a sixth-grader at the middle school.

"She said, 'If I give you the gun will you hide it for me?'" he said.

In the tweet, police did not address the questions many parents and others have: how a 12-year-old girl was able to get her hands on a gun in the first place, and how she was able to get it out of her house and into her school. Westlake, a mostly Hispanic area, is home to more than 20 schools.

While normal dismissal time is at 3:05 p.m., Zipperman said parents who wanted to pick up their children from the school early could do so by going to the softball field at Loma Drive and Crown Hill Avenue beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Just yesterday, another shooting occurred in an American public school; however, this time authorities are concluding that the incident was accidental.

The enrollment is 92 percent Latino, and most students are from low-income families.
