Microsoft ditches Windows 10 S in favor of a new 'S Mode'

Windows 10 surpasses Windows 7 in market share says one statistic

As per web analytics firm StatCounter, Windows 10 received 42.78 percent of the desktop market, finally edging out 8-year-old Windows 7, which scored 41.86 percent.

Microsoft is switching its approach to Windows 10 S, its new version of Windows that's created to compete with Chrome OS.

Microsoft announced the next version of Office, Office 2019, past year on September and they promised some new features in the new release.

Office 2019 will ship in the second half of this year and you will be able to get previews of it in the second quarter. This means that Office 2019's extended support will end on 14th October 2025. To ensure that customers get the most secure and efficiently managed experience from ProPlus and Windows 10 together, we are providing updates on the Windows system requirements for Office 365 ProPlus. Microsoft officials said previous year that a Windows 10 Enterprise in S Mode variant would be coming, and there are hints that a Windows 10 IoT in S Mode could exist, too. Well yesterday, Microsoft posted an article where they gave more information about Office 2019.

Microsoft's made no secret of its desire for users to adopt Windows 10, but this is an unmistakable signal for those remaining on Windows 7 (and the few who bothered with Windows 8.x) that their time is up if they want access to Microsoft's productivity innovations. Others have already moved to Windows 10, but plenty are still on Windows 7 or 8.1 - or even Windows XP in some cases. In other words, pushy software that displays pressuring messages will soon be classified as unwanted, and Microsoft's Windows Defender Antivirus will remove them.

Trump to keep Guantanamo Bay prison open
When necessary, we must be able to detain and question them. "I would certainly consider that, yes", Trump told CBS. I worked to find a way to close the prison without compromising security", Bush wrote in his memoir.

The lead that Windows 10 now has over Windows 7 is still pretty small, though it is unlikely that Windows 7 will again take the lead over Windows 10 next month.

Dona Sarkar has just announced that there won't be any new Windows 10 Insider build today (February 2nd) due to a rollback situation.

The desktop Office suite will be supported for quite a while to come for the simple reason that despite the fact that Microsoft, Google et al, would like you to think that cloud alternatives are better, there'll always be a market for the apps.

The preliminary version of Office 2019 will become available somewhere around summer but at this point we don't have an official, final release date. As Redmond's explained, "In the past, perpetual versions of Office were released under the Microsoft Fixed Lifecycle Policy, with a term of 5 years of standard support and 5 years of extended support".
