Koeman appointed coach of struggling Netherlands

Ronald Koeman follows in footsteps of Louis van Gaal with new job

The Netherlands have officially announced the appointment of Ronald Koeman as their new manager.

Koeman's long-term mission will be to guide the Dutch back to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ after they failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia under head coach Dick Advocaat.

In a statement, the KNVB said Koeman had signed a contract "up to and including the 2022 World Cup", and he was due to speak at a news conference later on Tuesday.

Guus Hiddink succeeded Van Gaal but was replaced by Danny Blind who was then followed by Advocaat in what has been a frustrating period for the Netherlands, who also failed to qualify for Euro 2016.

It was a massive humiliation for the football-mad Dutch, causing much soul-searching, and an added blow to national pride after the team also missed Euro 2016.

The 54-year-old becomes the fourth coach to take the Holland job since Louis van Gaal left to take over at Manchester United after guiding the Oranje to third place at 2014 World Cup Brazil.

Does Trump's nuclear plan increase the chance of conflict?
Low-yield nuclear weapons have a strength of less than 20 kilotons, about the same power as the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. In the long term, the United States military will also develop a new nuclear-armed, sea-launched cruise missile.

"I'm really positive about the future of the team". The best way is so players can handle different systems.

"We know we don't have the best players, but that doesn't mean that you cannot have the best team", he added.

The appointment of the ex-Netherlands worldwide was announced by the country's football association (KNVB) on Tuesday.

During his playing career, Koeman made 78 appearances for the Dutch national side.

In between, he played as part of the so-called "Dream Team" at Barcelona from 1990-1995 scoring the winning goal in the 1992 Champions League final.

The former Everton manager's first opponents will be England in a friendly at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on 23rd March.
