An army personnel injured in the indiscrimiante firing is in a critical condition. "Militants number is not known as of now", said Jammu Inspector General of Police (IGP) S. D. Singh Jamwal.

This is the second major terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two months.

Intermittent gunfire and explosions are taking place inside the camp. Security forces immediately took charge to track down the militants. The DGP has apprised him of the situation.

Following the attack, the district administration has asked the schools within 500 meters of the camp to remain shut.

Soon after the attack, reinforcement of army's Special Forces and SOG rushed to the spot and cordoned off the whole area amid fierce gunfight.

The area has been cordoned off and operations are underway to flush out the terrorists present in the camp.

The terrorists entered quarters of a junior commissioning officer, Madan Lal Choudhar, an intelligence source said.

M Ashraf Mir and Madan Lal lost their lives in the attack launched by a group of four-five heavily-armed Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists.

All educational institutions within half a kilometre radius of the camp have been shut down for the day.

The top security officials are camping in the area. At least 12 soldiers were killed in the militant attacks. This is the second time it has been targeted in 10 years.

According to sources, the gunshots were first heard around 5 am.

"Around 4.55am, suspicious movement was noticed by the santri". Another officer and a civilian are among the six injured and have been moved to the military hospital.

Meanwhile, a high alert has been sounded in Jammu and security beefed up in and around the city.

The advisory was issued after the JKLF announced to stage a protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat on February 9 and February 11.
