House Passes Massive Budget to End Government Shutdown

Congress approved a major budget deal early Friday morning, voting to end a brief government shutdown overnight.

He begins the statement with, "This is no way to run a country".

The bill also calls for the lifting of limits on federal spending, which would allow the repeating increases in defense and domestic budgets.

Meanwhile, the legislation faces uncertainty in the House, where liberals, led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, are protesting a lack of protections for illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children and the conservative House Freedom Caucus is lining up against provisions ending spending caps.

The agreement also provides funds for disaster relief, infrastructure and programs addressing opioid abuse, the Senate leaders said.

Also on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., met with Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., to work out a long-term spending measure that would keep the government funded for the next two years.

But the deficit spending in the bill will add more red ink to Washington's balance sheet and further underscore a shift in Republican thinking that Paul was trying to draw attention to.

It also extends the US government's borrowing authority until March 2019, sparing Washington politicians hard votes on debt and deficits until after mid-term congressional elections in November.

Rahul Gandhi slams Arun Jaitley, says UPA was transparent on prices
Jaitley said GDP growth under UPA rule in 2012-13 was 5.3% - the lowest in recent years - and it was 6.3% in the following year. He said, anti-evasion measures will help more collection of tax.

House Republican leaders on Thursday had offered assurances that the package would be approved, but so did Senate leaders and the critical midnight deadline, when current government funding authority expired, was still missed.

"I am taking this time because I think we have an opportunity now that is nearly matchless we are in a moment when we can all come together to do something really good for the country", Pelosi said.

The house voted 240-186 to approve the bill just before dawn, hours after the senate had approved the measure on a 71-28 vote.

Republican and Democratic leaders in the Senate are nearing agreement on a two-year budget bill to avoid another government shutdown, Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer said Tuesday. "I want people to feel uncomfortable". Really who is to blame?

"I urge the Senate Democrats to stop their filibuster and provide our men and women in uniform the resources they need, the support they need", said House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. Two reasons: the Senate's arcane rules essentially invite such mischief-making; and congressional leaders waited until the very last minute to unveil their deal, leaving them vulnerable to legislative glitches.

I'm happy to announce that our bipartisan, bicameral negotiations on defense spending and other priorities have yielded a significant agreement.

Pelosi continued to press Ryan for a promise to bring an immigration measure sponsored by Reps. They say Nunes' memo is designed as a distraction from the probe, which is looking into whether Trump's campaign was in any way connected to the Russian interference. Trump said in September he would end by March 5 former Democratic President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that protects the Dreamers from deportation.
