The sale of the Weinstein Company, which was supposed to be completed this weekend, was thrown in turmoil as the outgoing board of directors rejected a settlement offer by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman over civil rights violations.

"As alleged in our complaint, The Weinstein Company repeatedly broke NY law by failing to protect its employees from pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation and discrimination", said Schneiderman.

Schneiderman's office said any sale must ensure that victims are compensated. The suit references the Weinstein Company's COO, but does not use Glasser's name.

The lawsuit is part of an ongoing four-month investigation and includes interviews with multiple survivors of the alleged sexual misconduct, employees, and company executives.

The lawsuit potentially complicates the sale of the company, once one of Hollywood's most powerful film studios.

Joker Movie Aiming to Cast Joaquin Phoenix
Variety reports that three-time Oscar-nominee Joaquin Phoenix is being eyed by Warner Bros. for the part. There had been rumors that Leonardo DiCaprio would take on the role but the plan fell through.

In all, more than 60 women have accused Weinstein of varying degrees of sexual misconduct.

The suit included an array of new allegations regarding Weinstein's depraved behavior.

Schneiderman's lawsuit includes dozens of specific examples of misconduct, including allegations that he told several employees, "I will kill you", "I will kill your family", and "You don't know what I can do".

Weinstein's drivers in Los Angeles and NY were required to keep condoms and erectile dysfunction injections in the auto at all times, papers charge.

A Weinstein attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
