YouTube suspends ads on Logan Paul's channel, cites recent behavior

YouTube suspends Logan Paul's ad revenue, blames 'recent pattern of behavior'

While the short-term effect of suspending Logan Paul's ad revenue will hurt him specifically, the long-term effect could harm other YouTubers as well.

Paul, who became embroiled in worldwide controversy last month for a video filmed in Japan's so-called "suicide forest," drew outcry again this week for tweeting about eating Tide Pods and posting a video where he uses a stun gun on dead rats and takes a fish out of a koi pond and puts it on the ground.

In a video posted on February 4, Paul brags about having accumulated a vast subscriber count after having taken a short sabbatical from YouTube following the outcry over his video depicting the Japanese "suicide forest".

The company has made this decision because notable creators like Paul and YouTuber Felix "Pewdiepie" Kjellberg have exhibited controversial behavior that is seen to be harmful to the YouTube community.

After Paul's jaunt in Japan last month, YouTube removed him from Google Preferred, a premium ad group for content creators, and cancelled his YouTube Red video series. But to some, YouTube's decision didn't go far enough.

Paul then returned with a new video where he talked about turning over a new leaf, becoming a much better and mature human being, and he even raised awareness for suicide and mental health.

Trump 'shows great compassion' for women, Kellyanne Conway says
More importantly, though, the fact that this leaked out so quickly suggests Kelly has lost the confidence of his staff. Trump's tweet also struck a nerve with people who noted that assault survivors have their lives "shattered", too.

However he was soon back to his old tricks, posting a tweet mocking the risky Tide Pod challenge and saying he would swallow one tide laundry detergent pod per retweet. All three of these stem from content posted on February 5, and the video containing the weird fish/rat incident remains available.

This is a bigger outcome for Paul than YouTube's first punishment, which simply removed Paul from Google Preferred, the company's top-tier ad group for creators.

In a tweet, the company said it acted "in response to Paul's recent pattern of behavior".

Paul does have other revenue streams, however, such as his merchandise line which is quite popular amongst his millions of fans.

On his return to YouTube, Paul said: "I know for a fact everything I do from this point on will get criticism, it will get backlash, because I'm a very polarising dude". YouTube is now vetting the program more closely and giving advertisers full reports on where ads appear.

But that seems to be a problem for YouTube, which is now punishing Paul for failing to follow its advertiser policy guidelines.
