Facebook Losing Young Users to Snapchat at Fast Pace

If you still use Facebook regularly we've got some bad news for you

The amount of users in that age demographic declined by 1.4 million (9.9 percent) past year, according to data The Daily Caller News Foundation obtained from eMarketer.

In the past, Facebook users who dropped out were migrating to Facebook-owned Instagram. "This latest forecast indicates that it's more than a theory". "There are now some early signs that younger social networkers are being swayed by Snapchat", said Fisher.

The company is trying to boost Snapchat's appeal in older age-groups by redesigning the platform and making it easier to use. But for years now, the social network's growth in the USA has been driven by older users.

However, Instagram overall is still bigger in the United States than Snapchat.

As Facebook ages, its younger users seem to be leaving - or just not joining at all, in the first place.

In 2017, eMarketer reported that more than 1.54 billion people used Facebook at least once per month during the calendar year.

The problem of privacy reared its head again on Monday as a German court ruled Facebook's default privacy setting and use of personal data are against consumer laws in the country.

By eMarketer's reckoning, that's because growth among 12- to 17-year-olds will drop by 5.6%, this year.

A social scientist, Julie Smith from Denver said in a statement that, "Teens want that instant gratification". "Facebook isn't just Facebook, they've got Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. Their minds move quickly", Smith says.

Commentators have speculated that the popularity among older people is because it allows them to keep up with the social lives of their kids and grandchildren.

But perhaps it should be alarmed - MySpace looked unbeatable until Facebook came along, and it quickly fell off a cliff. So, too, is the ability to communicate one-on-one or in smaller groups. They don't do the research, they do the reports on the research from a finely-tuned selection of research firms.

A 9.3 percent drop for Facebook users under 11-years-old.

"This year, for the first time, fewer than half of internet users aged 12 to 17-year will use Facebok", added the eMarketer.

For the first time since its creation, less than half of USA internet users between the ages of 12 and 17 are predicted to use Facebook at least once per year through any device, according to eMarketer's latest forecast on social network usage. The overall monthly increase in users that Facebook likes to showcase during its earnings calls is mainly the result of older and worldwide users.

The number of total Facebook users in the USA will reach 169.5 million this year, up just under 1 per cent from 2017.

According to its figures, Instagram will add around 1.6 million users aged 24 and under, while Snapchat will gain around 1.9 million.

While "Facebook newer", who are new to Social media world are even rejecting Facebook usage from the starting.

Instagram is a Facebook-owned app which is still the top priority of the young generation, which means Facebook is not giving up their users to someone else.

Facebook's uncool status has been made fun of on Twitter for years.

"I'm not sure anything could bring me back to the site at this moment in time", he said. Children under ten are already on social media.
