Nokia Snakes it's Way Up to Number 6 Mobile Phone Brand Globally

Nokia 8

While growth of Samsung Electronics and Apple in the global smartphone market is expected to slow this year, Nokia is being forecast to resurface as a global smartphone brand, according to an analysis by U.S. market researcher on Wednesday.

Back in 2017, it took HMD Global approximately one month to trial and roll out the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo to the Nokia 8.

According to a report by Nokia Power User, the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 9 and the Nokia 1 may be available in India, starting from the month of April. The sources go on to claim that these anticipated Nokia phones will be joined by 1-2 more devices around the same time.

In our review of the phone a year ago, we said "It's easy to imagine an alternate reality where another, lesser, version of this device coasts along on the novelty of the Nokia brand". It has already been listed on FCC, revealing some of the purported specifications.

Before proceeding to download Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Nokia 8, you need to activate Wi-Fi because the total capacity of the update is almost 1.5GB. The global variant of the smartphone is said to use the same Snapdragon 630 chipset but is likely to arrive with 3GB RAM and called Nokia 6.1.

To recall, Nokia 6 (2018) comes with a 5.5-inch full HD with a screen resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and 2.5d curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Don't expect too much from this entry-level phone.

On the camera front, the smartphone flaunts a 16-megapixel camera with PDAF, 1.0um sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash. On the connectivity front, the smartphone offers hybrid Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 5, GPS, USB Type C, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, Dual speakers, Dual smart amplifiers, and Dolby Atmos.
