World Health Organization report shows significant rise in measles in Europe

It is anxious about that the number of cases has jumped from 5,273 in 2016 to 21,315 in 2017, resulting in 35 deaths.

The spokesperson said: "If people are unsure of their vaccination status they are advised to get an MMR vaccine, as even if they do have 2 doses of MMR a third dose is not harmful". A law to that effect is now awaiting parliamentary approval. The Five Star Movement, a populist political party, has been one organization to raise doubts over the efficacy of vaccinations in recent years. Before widespread vaccination efforts in the 1960s, measles killed more than 2 million people each year, and made thousands blind.

This fear could be attributed to disgraced gastroenterologist Andrew Wakefield's theory in 1995 that the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is linked to bowel disease and autism.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has released figures highlighting a startling 400% increase in cases of measles reported in 2017 compared with the previous year's figures.

Despite this, the World Health Organization reports that multiple actions are being taken across Europe to stop the current outbreaks and prevent future ones, including public awareness campaigns, immunising healthcare professionals and other adults at particular risk, addressing challenges in access, and improving supply planning and logistics.

The surge included large outbreaks (100 or more cases) in 15 of the 53 countries, but Ireland was not included. All children should get MMR at 12 months of age and the second dose at 4-5 years of age.

Groves vs Eubank Jr
Though it was bloody and brutal, it was not one for the purists, with Eubank Jr wildly swinging in an attempt to turn the tide. Afterwards he bemoaned the cut he sustained from an accidental clash of heads.

But outbreaks will continue to occur until every susceptible child and adult is protected.

Parents who refuse to give the jab to their children have been blamed for the deaths.

Most Norwegians have been vaccinated against measles since the vaccine was introduced in 1969.

Doubts were raised following a 1998 study by Dr Andrew Wakefield.

Nonetheless, MMR vaccination rates in the USA and the United Kingdom plummeted, until, in 2004 the then-editor of The Lancet Dr Richard Horton described Wakefield's research as "fundamentally flawed", adding he was paid by attorneys seeking lawsuits against vaccine manufacturers.

At least two of the children also had developmental delays before they were vaccinated, yet Wakefield's paper claimed they were all "previously normal". For the next three days this rash spreads until it eventually reaches the hands and feet.
