Manafort pleads not guilty at arraignment in Russian Federation probe

Paul Manafort gets a trial date

Gates and Manafort were both charged with multiple counts of conspiracy, tax fraud and money laundering stemming from lobbying and consulting work related to Ukrainian politicians who are strong allies of Russian Federation. But Gates has pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with Mueller, who is probing Russian interference in the election and possible ties to the Trump campaign.

Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion between his campaign and Moscow during the elections. With a file from the Associated Press.

In the DC charges alone, Manafort faces a likely sentence of more than 15 years to nearly 20 years in prison if found guilty.

But Manafort, a veteran Washington Republican political consultant, has refused to do a deal and will go to trial instead.

U.S. President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort has again pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election and will face another trial in July. Guidelines call for about eight to 10 years, though.

Manafort's former business partner, Rick Gates, pleaded guilty in D.C.to conspiracy and lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mixing 27 unforced errors with 34 winners, it was far from easy for the unseeded Williams on the slow hardcourt in Indian Wells . Serena , 36, will need to get through her first round match against 53rd ranked Zarina Diyas and the 29th-seeded Kiki Bertens.

A trial date was set for July 10. At the request of prosecutors, charges have been dropped against Gates in Virginia, though they could be resurrected should he fail to live up to a plea agreement, which requires him to offer information on any matters Mueller deems relevant. In June 2017, when Manafort registered as a foreign agent after the fact, he reported making more than $17 million from the Party of Regions.

At Thursday's hearing, Manafort and his lawyers indicated that he fully intends to contest the charges.

Prosecutors told said in court they planned to call 20-25 witnesses and said their arguments could last up to two weeks.

Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni did put out a statement shortly after the indictment was announced. He faces up to 15 years on the charges of filing false tax returns and up to 20 years on the charges of failing to report foreign bank accounts.

Manafort's case is before Judge T.S. Ellis III, a senior judge appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1987.

The judge imposed similar bail conditions on Manafort to those already in place in the District, including home confinement.
