Drew Brees: Deal puts Saints in "best position to succeed"

Drew Brees: Deal puts Saints in

Drew Brees is expected to re-sign with the New Orleans Saints.

The NFL offseason is preparing to get into full swing with the start of the free agency legal tampering period.

Brees' new contract is similar to his previous one-year deal, under which he earned $24.25 million in 2017. But New Orleans's window to retain Brees is shrinking by the minute with apparently a lot of work to be done. It makes all the sense in the world for Brees to at least feign interest in other teams as he negotiates with the Saints.

He has thrown for 58,097 yards and 408 touchdowns with the Saints - the most by any quarterback in any 12-season span in National Football League history.

But it's no secret that other teams would be willing to pay big money to secure a Hall of Fame quarterback of Brees' caliber.

Stopping Ireland no motivation for 'critical' England
This group haven't had the opportunity, so we can surely look back on what they did and what it meant for them afterwards. Well, statistics can often be misleading but it is clear that Ireland have played each and every game on their own terms.

The news of this contract is a little stunning though, because it apparently means Brees is taking less than full market value to stay in New Orleans.

Add in a young, improved defense (42 sacks, 20 interceptions, five fumble recoveries, 336.5 yards and 20.4 points allowed per game), and the Saints appear poised to make another push with Brees.

Brees completed a career-high 72.0 percent of his passes for 4,334 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading the team to an 11-5 regular-season mark. "Brees is back! Back with the Saints and back for another Super Bowl title".

There is the distinct possibility that could happen, as numerous teams are starting to reach out to Tom Condon, Brees' agent, and the quarterback himself with what could be huge offers. But the Vikings aren't the only ones reaching out.

Brees is 39. His chances to get to another Super Bowl are dwindling.
