Ousted Trump aide McEntee is under investigation for 'serious financial crimes'

A longtime personal assistant to President Donald Trump was reportedly fired and escorted out of the White House on Monday, with one report claiming the ouster was due to a criminal investigation.

"McEntee was sacked because he is now under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes", CNN reported. The official, who requested anonymity to discuss personnel issues, said McEntee had been expected to travel with Trump - as he always does - when the President departed for a trip to California on Tuesday.

McEntee, Trump's "body man", was one of his closest aides and had been at his side since the start of his campaign.

But a senior administration official said numerous President's top aides were shocked by the abrupt departure, which the official described as a sudden decision.

However, it warned that this so-called dividend should not be viewed in isolation. "The big challenges facing Britain of weak pay and productivity growth remain largely unchanged".

White House aides were stunned when they learned of McEntee's sudden departure, two sources tell CNN. A since-fired State Department employee said this morning that Tillerson found out he was sacked when he saw Trump's tweet.

After serving as trip director for the campaign McEntee was brought into the White House as Trump's personal assistant, where he earned $115,000 a year.

McEntee, who went by Johnny as UConn's starting quarterback in 2011, was working at Fox News after graduation when he joined Trump's campaign as a volunteer and quickly got hired to a full-time position in August 2015.

McEntee is the latest in a series of departures by West Wing officials, including communications director Hope Hicks and staff secretary Rob Porter. He also had issues with his security clearance.
