United Kingdom watchdog asks financial businesses to complete Brexit survey

Critics have seized on EU proposals to maintain access to British fishing waters More

The survey by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is for businesses that offer their financial services under European Union "passporting" rules to customers in Britain from a base in another member state.

Mr Barnier added that it was a "rather surprising idea" to think the European Union could accept convergence in some areas "and at the same time open up the possibility for divergence when there is a comparative advantage to be had" for the UK.

"It is obvious that we need further clarity from the United Kingdom if we are to reach an understanding on our future relationship", Juncker said.

The report noted that in the EU27, the hardest hit sector will be automotive, where the direct impact will be around 2% of current gross value added.

After Theresa May rejected EU proposals for Northern Ireland effectively to remain in the customs union, Mr Tusk warned that progress in Brexit talks could be put at risk if there was "backsliding" on principles agreed past year.

Britain says the implementation period will give businesses certainty heading into next year, as the rest of Britain's future relationship with the European Union is yet to be agreed upon.

One of the British government's biggest Brexit cheerleaders has taken aim at those in the European Union he accuses of looking to punish Britain for its decision to leave the bloc as exhibiting gang-like tendencies.

Irving has had concerns about his knee since breaking his kneecap in the 2015 NBA Finals, and now he needs to get it some rest. However, if getting the top seed to avoid Cleveland in the second round is the goal, the Raptors may be in trouble.

Ending his own speech by slapping the table in front of him, Juncker said: "We need to focus on our European future".

The EU and Britain are hoping to seal a deal this month on a transition period after Brexit this spring.

Britain is due to leave the bloc in March 2019.

Delivering a damning verdict on May's speech, the Parliament's Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt said, "It is mainly repeating the red lines that we know already two years".

EU Council President Donald Tusk warned last week that the Irish border issue must be solved before negotiations can move on to other issues.

"If in London someone assumes that the negotiations will deal with other issues first, my response would be Ireland first", Tusk said. During a speech to the British Chamber of Commerce, Arlene Foster, the leader of Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), attacked the EU's hardening stance on both trade and the Irish border.

"Such an agreement can not offer the same benefits as Membership and can not amount to participation in the Single Market or parts thereof", the text read. That would effectively create a new border in the Irish Sea between the island of Ireland and Britain.
