"This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only goal in life is to lie for the wicked", he tweeted, captioning the painting. Rather, he described the image as "a so-called Christian whose only goal in life is to lie for the wicked". "Monstrous!", the actor wrote in a caption.

As such, Carrey was forced to respond to press inquiries, however his spokeswoman would only confirm that is was, in fact, his painting, but would not confirm that it's Sanders.

Some pundits characterised Carrey's portrait as a sexist comment on the secretary's appearance and an attack on her religion.

After sharing the sketch online, Carrey was met by a backlash from right-wing figures on both social media and Fox News.

Monday afternoon, Carrey tweeted another one of his paintings and wrote, "If you liked my last cartoon you may also enjoy..." Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Trump's chief of staff, John F. Kelly.

The reason they claimed was that they do not trust the Y S Jaganmohan Reddy-led party, as they were found hobnobbing with the BJP. When no-confidence motion is moved you have to talk (in the House debate) about the government's failures.

The tweet quickly went viral as Twitter users began to speculate whether the portrait was indeed of Sanders, criticizing Carrey for "mocking" Christianity.

He was one of the top actors of the 1990s, headlining hits like "Liar, Liar", "The Mask", "Dumb and Dumber", and much more. Others pointed out that the arguments against the artwork could be seen as hypocritical.

A painting by comedian Jim Carrey that was posted to Twitter in March 2018.

Carrey, who said in the short film "I Needed Color" that he started painting as a way to heal after his split with actress Jenny McCarthy, has often used his art to skewer President Trump and his GOP allies.
