Major League Baseball to take Yanks-BoSox rivalry to London

Joel Sherman hears the Red Sox would likely be the home team for the two games, which means the Yankees won't lose two home gates.

"I don't think so at this point", Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday. "So, if that's true, maybe I'm going to London".

Photo Greg Bird of the Yankees and Mookie Betts of the Boston Red Sox are just two of the dynamic young players M.L.B. would be sending to London for a pair of games in 2019.

Baseball officials have long hoped for games on London and settled past year on Olympic Stadium, which is in its second season as home of West Ham of the Premier League. June is the only time the building is available for baseball.

Former NFL Player Jonathan Martin Hit With Multiple Charges Over Instagram Post
After leaving during the 2013 season, Martin accused multiple offensive line teammates of harassing him. Harvard Westlake, Martin's high school in California , was shut down after the post was discovered.

"It's a natural fit, especially for the Red Sox, [who are] owned by Fenway Sports Group that also owns Liverpool FC".

An announcement is expected to be made within the next two months. The games would take place on those two dates due to the stadium hosting Premier League games before and then needing to be prepared for track and field after the dates. MLB matches have previously been played in Mexico and Japan, nations that have a baseball culture, but the London series would reach a new audience.

Baseball opened its season at Monterrey in 1999 (Colorado vs. San Diego); the Tokyo Dome in 2000 (Chicago Cubs-New York Mets), 2004 (Tampa Bay-Yankees), 2008 (Boston-Oakland) and 2012 (Seattle-Oakland); and at Sydney, Australia in 2014 (Los Angeles Dodgers-Arizona). The Yankees and Red Sox have each participated in an overseas trip before, with the NY facing Tampa for two games at the Tokyo Dome in 2004 and Boston meeting Oakland at the same venue four years later. He was quickly visited by a trainer and replaced by Donovan Solano. There had been an outside chance that the outfielder, out since suffering the oblique strain March 2, might be ready for the season opener March 29 in Toronto, but that possibility has all but been eliminated.
