Facebook Changes Privacy Controls As Criticism Escalates

Facebook announces new steps to protect users’ privacy

Cooper Hefner, the son of late Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, said late Tuesday that the publication would be leaving Facebook.

Facebook is also planning to make it easier to download a copy of all the data you've shared with the company.

In the United States, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been asked to testify before three congressional committees investigating the Cambridge Analytica controversy, and he's expected to submit to questioning by at least one of those panels.

'These updates are about transparency - not about gaining new rights to collect, use, or share data'.

The post also said: "We've worked with regulators, legislators and privacy experts on these tools and updates".

Facebook is facing unprecedented scrutiny following reports that the data mining firm used ill-gotten data from tens of millions of its users to try to influence elections.

The idea is to make it more useful for people to take control of their information, allowing them to see what Facebook has collected - and to wipe the slate clean, if they so choose. A Facebook spokeswoman declined to comment. Almost three months in, it's a taller order than ever.

Nate Cardozo, senior staff attorney at the privacy group Electronic Frontier Foundation, said that Facebook's design changes were a start, but did not address deep needs for consumers.

Last week, tech billionaire Elon Musk deleted the Facebook pages for his two main businesses, electric vehicle maker Tesla and rocket startup SpaceX.

Facebook has recently transformed into a traitor from being a best friend. He called the investigation "good news". Facebook still plans to launch the devices later this year. They apply to any company that collects data on European Union residents, no matter where it is based. He said the FTC had dropped the ball in failing to enforce that.

The scandal over data privacy that is causing a headache for Facebook Inc shows just one aspect of the huge task of preparing the world for e-commerce, the United Nations trade and development agency UNCTAD said on Wednesday.

"Facebook has made promises about users' privacy in the past, and we need to know that users can trust Facebook", they wrote.

"We have a responsibility to protect your information. So it's important that we design a system where people can do both". "Our internal review of the situation continues and we look forward to responding".
