Malala Yousafzai on emotional return to Pakistan

Malala Yousafzai, world's youngest Nobel laureate, returns to home in Pakistan

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has returned to Pakistan for the first time since Taliban militants shot her in 2012 for her advocacy of girls' education. "I had no choice, I had to leave for my life".

Earlier today, Yousafzai called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at his office, where she was to attend the special function marking her achievements as an activist for girls education.

Ali stressed that the organisation went on a countrywide strike in order to show solidarity with Malala when she was attacked.

Malala Yousafzai returned to her home country of Pakistan for the first time since the Taliban attempted to assassinate her in 2012.

Abbasi warmly welcomed Malala on her return to the country and appreciated her efforts for the girls education across the world.

In a sign of the attention she still draws in Pakistan, security for Yousafzai's visit was extremely tight.

On December 10, 2014, Yousafzai received Nobel Peace Prize with Indian children's rights and education advocate Kailash Satyarthi. "We will provide you all the security you need", he said.

However, among the messages of welcome were pockets of intense criticism from some Pakistanis, including hardline Muslims as well as members of the conservative middle class who support education for girls, but object to airing the nation's problems overseas. The Malala Fund is already working on this.

"God willing, Pakistan, the future of Pakistan, lies in its people", she said. "She's only completed one school and we hope that she works on more schools in Swat".

She remained in Britain after undergoing medical treatment there and won a place at the University of Oxford past year.

But do Pakistanis also believe that Malala Yousafzai represents their country? And I want to be able to move freely in the streets and meet and talk to people peacefully, without any fear.

Pakistani officials, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter, said their understanding is that her visit will last until Monday.

Hamid Mir, a leading Pakistani journalist has issued a plea for opposition politicians and commentators to exercise restraint when talking about the visit."International media is highly focused on her return and this (bad language) will damage Pakistan´s image", he said.

Yousafzai was specifically targeted by the Taliban - who said they would target her again if she survived - because of her public campaigns in favor of female education.

While she is arguably the most recognizable Pakistani in the world, Yousafzai - known nearly universally as Malala - is a polarizing figure at home.

Prime Minister Abbasi, referring to Yousafzai, said he was "so happy that our child who has earned so much fame internationally has come home".

Following the attack, she was transferred to hospital in the United Kingdom, where she made a full recovery.

Malala was 14 years old when she was almost assassinated by the Pakistani Taliban for simply wanting to go to school.
