Apple's Cook Has Pointed Advice for Facebook's Zuckerberg

Business

Apple CEO Tim Cook took a serious jab Wednesday at fellow Silicon Valley bigwig Mark Zuckerberg and his company, Facebook, as large portions of the public and officials across the world are raking both over the coals.

"We could make a ton of money if we monetized our customers, if our customers were our product", Cook told MSNBC and Recode in an interview set to air April 6.

"We've elected not to do that", Cook explained, according to Recode. "We want kids to go to the store, right?"

Cook also said that it is preceding time to regulate Facebook.

Cook said in no uncertain terms that Facebook could not adequately monitor itself in terms of privacy: "I think the best regulation is no regulation, is self-regulation". "I think that this certain situation is so dire and has become so large that probably some well-crafted regulation is necessary", Cook added.

Jaguar signs deal to produce self-driving I-Pace
Krafcik said the autonomous taxi service will operate within a set area of approximately 100 square miles in the Phoenix area. The company has racked up the most autonomous test miles on roads, and millions more in simulation.

Whether you love or hate Apple, the company's business practices do seem to back up Cook's statements for the most part. We make sure all the movies are coded in such a way where you can say, "I only want my child looking at G movies", or whatever, or we have a parental control around apps. Apple has policies of what is and isn't allowed there, and so Hayes and Swisher pressed him on whether Facebook's privacy issues might lead Apple to do something with that power. It's a civil liberty, and something that is unique to America.

The social network has been rocked in recent weeks following claims from whistleblower Christopher Wylie the data of 50m US-based Facebook users was collected without their knowledge by a third party app, which British consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica then used to create targeted adverts during the 2016 US Presidential election. Lawmakers have also floated tougher rules on the company and two Congressional committees have formally invited the Facebook CEO to testify.

While Apple has its own critics, Cook's criticism of Facebook is line with how Apple has operated in the past with regards to protecting user data.

When asked what he would do if he were in Mark Zuckerburg's shoes right now, Cook replied, " What would I do?
